When Maureen reached out to Move By Design, she was looking for help with her significant move.
With a large 5 bedroom, three storey home in Remuera that her and her family had lived in for 12 years she was now downsizing to a single level 4 bedroom home in Parnell. Maureen opted for a full service move, which includes packing, removals, and unpacking—all managed by our experienced and professional team.
Full Service move in Remuera: The challenges
Maureen’s Remuera property posed several unique challenges. The home was spread over three levels, with narrow stairways that made moving bulky items especially tricky. Her collection of antique furniture—large, heavy, and delicate—required thoughtful manoeuvring to prevent damage. One particularly bulky item, a large photocopier, needed extra care and strategic planning to remove safely from the lower floor.
In addition to the furniture, Maureen owned an impressive personal library of about 400 books, as well as a vast collection of ornamental items displayed throughout the house. These fragile items needed careful wrapping and packing, not only for protection but also for efficient unpacking at the new location.
To make matters more complex, access to Maureen’s home involved a steep, narrow driveway, partially obstructed by a tree. This meant we had to select the right truck for the job and be strategic about how we positioned it for loading. Safety and care were top priorities to ensure every item was properly secured for the journey.
How the Full Service move came together
Our full service move for Maureen was planned and executed over four days.
On Day 1, a team of four lady packers focused solely on the fragile and valuable items. This included all 400 books and Maureen’s ornamental pieces, each carefully wrapped and packed for the move.
Day 2 was dedicated to packing the rest of the household: kitchenware, clothing, linens, and general contents. Our team labelled everything clearly to make unpacking at the other end as smooth as possible.
Day 3 was moving day. Our removals crew handled the transport of Maureen’s belongings from Remuera to Parnell.
Once the truck arrived at the new home, the unpacking began immediately. We focused first on the essentials—unpacking and setting up the kitchen, master bedroom (including a large walk-in wardrobe), and the living room. This ensured that Maureen and her husband could relax, cook, and sleep comfortably on their very first night in their new home.
The next day, we returned to complete the job. Our team unpacked the remaining items, including Maureen’s ornaments and extensive book collection. We also arranged the guest bedrooms and set up the home office to ensure the entire space ready to use.

One day after the final box was unpacked, Maureen’s new home was not only functional—it was beautiful. With all the heavy lifting and tedious tasks taken care of, Maureen was free to focus on the fun part: artistically placing her ornaments and giving the space her personal touch.
